Mrs. Chanell's Follow the Leader Class
Mrs. Chanell is our newest instructor teaching the OMG! Dance class AND Superhero Bootcamp. Follow along with her while she reads Follow the Leader by Erica Silverman and then gets your littles up to move and groove!
Objective:
Help children understand leadership, how to follow directions, use listening skills, teaching patience while they wait for next move and allows children to be come leaders. Reading helps build children’s vocabulary, stimulates their imagination, while also helping them to develop language.
Things students will need:
Any instrument or anything that makes noise.
Something they can jump over (a cone, small toy, pillow).
Activity:
Read the book “Follow the Leader” by Erica Silverman to the camera and explain to the students that after we finish reading the book we will have a “Follow the Leader” dance party doing the following moves from the book.
(Move will be continuous)
Walk
Hop
Skip
STOP
Gallop
Frog jump
Leap like a rabbit (have the kids find something safe to jump over)
Fly like an eagle
Swoop in a circle
Turn upside down with two hands on the floor
Run around in a circle
Close eyes and stretch arms out and spin around… (but be careful)
March in a parade (grab an instrument or anything you want to use in your parade)
Swimming
FREEZE (then start at the top again)

Mrs. Chanell is a local Pelham mom and mother to FOUR beautiful children! Rhythm, music, and creative movement is simply second nature to her. Chanell’s training began in 1996 with the Batoto Yetu , dance company, (which is Swahili for “Our Children”) where she travelled the world and danced for audiences in Portugal, Africa, and Hong Kong. She also showcased her talent with the great Jacob’s Pillow, lauded as the hub for creative dance. Her journey continued with dance performances on Broadway at the New Victory Theatre, Carnegie Hall, Symphony Space, and at Madison Square Garden for the late Michael Jackson’s 30th Anniversary celebration.
Chanell has taught dance to hundreds of children, choreographed and designed classes, workshops and dance programs for studios and schools. She received her Bachelors in Arts and Early Childhood Education from the University of Connecticut, and holds the following certifications. CPR, First Aid, Trained in anger management, mental and trauma assessment, Infant – Toddler, Pre-K, & Family Child Care CDA Credentials.
